California Park searched in after 2nd missing teen

The Police said they are draining a pond in a park north of San Diego in their efforts to find a girl who vanished about a year ago in the same region where 17-year-old Chelsea King disappeared last week.

Escondido police Lt. Craig Carter says investigators on Friday located a bag near the pond that three children reported finding in May, three months after 14-year-old Amber Dubois vanished while walking to school. The children told their parents the bag contained what looked like human hair, but the parents didn't think that was significant at the time.

King's disappearance and the discovery of a body in a grave in another park near Escondido drew a huge public outcry and renewed interest in Amber's case.

Authorities said there is a strong likelihood the body found by Lake Hodges is that of King, but an official identification won't be made immediately.
Convicted sex offender John Albert Gardner III has pleaded not guilty to murdering King during a rape or attempted rape. He also was charged with assaulting a woman in December with intent to rape.

King, a student at Poway High School, was last seen alive Feb. 25. Her car was found at Rancho Bernardo Community Park.

Separately, Roethlisberger had been sued by a woman who claimed he raped her in 2008 at a Lake Tahoe hotel. He denied those allegations and asked for counter-damages. A statement from Roethlisberger’s agent, Ryan Tollner, said he was cooperating with the authorities but was “skeptical of the motive” of the recent accusation.

"I really look at this as a great opportunity for me. They love football in Baltimore.

I know that from when the Cardinals played there a few years ago. That place was loud, very impressive by the fans. The Ravens play a certain way. They play as hard and as physical as any team in the league, and I want to add to that. I think I play the way they play."

Keith Olbermann’s Response to Bill Simmons

I promised no politics here and I stick to it. But I never said anything about never mentioning other sports, although I think I’ll start that rule about a paragraph from now. If you’d like to read the most poorly-informed conclusion I’ve come across in sports media this year, you have your link. Proceed with caution. In short, it is the contention that the comeback of Tiger Woods will be more difficult than the one Muhammad Ali faced in the 1960’s. If the writer can let me know when Woods is punitively drafted by the military even though he is about eight years older than almost all the other draftees, I’ll begin to take him seriously. In the interim I am again left to marvel how somebody can rise to a fairly prominent media position with no discernible insight or talent, save for an apparent ability to mix up a vast bowl of word salad very quickly.

Canada Budget Sees Deficit Almost Erased In 2014/15

The Canadian government said on Thursday its record budget shortfall would be cut in half when economic stimulus ends next year, and the shortfall would be almost eliminated in 2014/15 with C$17.6 billion in savings from expenses restraints, approaching back the timeline to return to balance by at least a year.

The record gap for the 2009/10 fiscal year that ends March 31 was revised modestly lower to C$53.8 billion from C$55.9 billion, and is expected to decline to C$49.2 billion next year and C$27.6 billion in 2011/12, the government said in the 2010 Budget.

Over the three years after that, the shortfall is seen to drop from C$17.55 billion to just C$1.8 billion in 2014/15. Last year's budget forecast a small surplus in 2013/14.
Federal debt as a share of gross domestic product is expected to peak at 35.4% in 2010/11 and fall to 31.9% by 2014/15.

Chile Quake vs Haiti Quake

The 8.8 Chile earthquake was almost 500 times more powerful than the Jan. 12 quake in Haiti. The Chile earthquake struck 22 miles below the surface while the Haiti earthquake struck only six miles below the surface. Its epicenter was farther from large urban centers than the Haiti quake was.

These factors and the magnitude of the aftershocks explain, in part, why the number of lives lost, rising to more than 200,000 in the Caribbean country, are much higher than the nearly 800 in the South American one.

Haiti’s development indicators are also much worse than Chile’s. Life expectancy in Haiti is 61 compared to 78 in Chile. According to the indices of infant mortality, 57 out of 1,000 children die in Haiti compared to eight in Chile. The Haitian gross national income (GNI) per capita was $660 while Chile’s per capita GNI was $9,400. Last year, Haiti ranked 149 out of 182 countries, whereas Chile ranked 44 in the United Nations’ Human Development Index.

Tim Burton’s film “Alice' in Moneyland” Poised for a $100-million weekend

Alice, an upcoming film, is expected to find a massive box office gold at the bottom of the rabbit hole this weekend.

"Alice" is on track to sell more than $75 million worth of tickets from Friday through Sunday in both the U.S. and Canada, and, according to some estimates, could even exceed $90 million.

"Alice in Wonderland," which was directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, is headed for one of the leading winter presentations. However, until now the record-holder is director Mel Gibson's 2004 release, "The Passion of the Christ," which opened to $83.8 million.

To achieve maximum return from a movie it is needed a very strong box office performance for the movie to earn a return on its sizable investment in the picture, which two people familiar with its budget said cost about $200 million to make. Additional marketing expenses can drive up the ultimate cost well beyond that.

Earth Moved 3 Inches Off Its Axis After Chile Quake

One strange fact of the Chile earthquake 2010 is that it moved the earth 3 inches off its axis, shortening our day by milliseconds. The change won’t cause a change in weather patterns, but it’s frightening to reflect what nonstop earthquakes could do to the world as we know it.
Over a million people are said to be displaced by the quakes. This means that there are lots of shattered hopes and dreams. Some have lost all that they have. Looters, riots, and general chaos flourish as people don’t know what to do.
Initially, everyone thought that the Chile earthquake wasn’t as bad as the earthquake in Haiti. However, with the insured losses mounting and the general chaos – some think that the Chilean quake is actually a lot worse.

A source close to the show said that Bowersox was hospitalized on Tuesday due to diabetes complications, which resulted in a last-minute switch that moved the top 10 male contestants to the Tuesday-night performance slot, and delayed the top 10 women to tonight.

Situation Deteriorates in Concepcion

After a strong 8.8 earthquake in Chile the situation gets even more problematic and worst. One can’t see the sun rising in Concepcion, a Chilean city, because the clouds have covered so thick. Earth has been rumbling still now. After each rumble, a little more brick and roof gave way in this destroyed little city.

There are pieces of homes vulnerable to the earthquakes. It's falling apart from the aftereffects that have plagued this city since that awful morning: the looting, the lack of food, fuel and water and a burning frustration that not enough is being done for people with high expectations of their government.

Though the military seems to have invaded, firing into the air to deter looting and rolling large military equipment through empty communities but even then it does not seem that the situation can be controlled in the earliest possible time.

Thomas Jefferson and Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence of United States was drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776. The draft is regarded as one of the nation's most respected symbol of liberty.

In it, Jefferson expressed the beliefs in the minds of the American people. The political viewpoint of the Declaration was not novel; its ideals of personal liberty had already been expressed by John Locke and the Continental philosophers.

Jefferson summarized his philosophy in "self-evident truths" and set forth a list of grievances against the King in order to justify before the world the breaking of ties between the colonies and the mother country.

US Senate approves extension of jobless benefits; Bunning concludes blockade

The senators of US assembly have approved, on Tuesday night, a bill while maximizing the unemployment benefits and many other federal programs. The bill was signed after Sen Jim Bunning dropped his days-long blockade of the bill.
Bunning argued that the measures were not paid for. He had kept the Senate's attention regarding the package of 30-day extensions since Thursday. It was only Bunning who stood firm until reaching agreement on a pact.
Bunning will also avail the chance to offer amendments on the next Senate jobs bill, a $150 billion measure scheduled up for consideration by the Senate in this week.

Sony was warning customers to stop using their PS3 machines because there were some instances where turning on the console would result in the loss of data such as trophies, or accomplishments, earned through game play.

Robert Pattinson asks “What's the most fascinating thing about me”

The heavy snow piled up on the sidewalks could not stop Robert Pattinson's fans on Monday evening at the red-carpet premiere for his romantic drama, "Remember Me."

The screaming masses lined up early and remained there for a long time waiting to catch a glimpse of him.

Inside the makeshift press tent at the Paris Theatre in midtown, the energy was no less wild. The screams of people who were waiting to talk with Pattinson were no less than ear-piercing.

While MTV News was chatting with his co-star Emilie de Ravin, Pattinson leaned over and shouted, "Emilie! Emilie! What's the most fascinating thing about me? Just say it!"

At this Emilie said, “He is fascinating to watch because he's so naturally subtle and interesting”.

Sen. Bunning Is Throwing Wild Pitches

Jim Bunning has been on a one-man campaign to cut off unemployment benefits since last four days, kick the unemployed off of health insurance, reduce Medicare payments to doctors, deny satellite TV to rural Americans, shut down federal flood insurance and highway projects, and furlough thousands of federal workers.

Democrats can hardly believe the gift Bunning has given them by single-handedly shutting down these popular programs. Bunning's fellow Republicans are aghast. They say it is the Senate, where any one of the 100 members has the ability to bring proceedings to a halt, and Bunning continues to throw his wild pitches.

Chilean President Appeals UN for More Aid

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Monday has appealed to the United Nations for aid and more troops to stop looting in the country's heavily damaged south.
Earlier, looting has erupted in ConcepciĆ³n, the hard-hit southern city of Chile, while many people remained bound in a 15-story apartment building that toppled onto its side.
This appeal came amid local criticism that the Bachelet government initially did not consider the devastation, squandering chances to rescue survivors. At least 723 fatalities have been confirmed yet that number is still expected to rise.
Earthquake experts said that the death toll appears low as compared to the enormous power of the magnitude-8.8 quake. The northern capital of Santiago was slowly returning to business as usual Monday. Subway lines were running again and many shops and offices were open for business

Chile Quake: Tsunami warning system worked as intended

The Chile quake that struck Saturday and activated a tsunami that traveled throughout the Pacific basin has tested the region's tsunami-warning network in decades.

By several measures, the region-wide warning effort was a success, though in retrospect evacuations in many places far from the Chilean coast appear to have been excessive given the size of the surge that ultimately arrived.

The state emergency officials have reported that they have put the size of coming waves at between 6 and 10 feet. The waves that did arrive were less than 3 feet tall.

Chile Earthquake Insured Losses may Amount to $8B

The loss after a devastated earthquake in Chile has amounted to $8 billion, a rate which won't have a big impact on the pricing of insurance.

It is expected that the well-developed economy of Chile will recover this loss.

Eqecat Inc., a Catastrophe risk modeling firm, has pointed out that the insured losses could range from $3 billion to $8 billion. The company also said the loss represents 15-40% of the estimated insured limits for earthquake coverage.

The loss estimate takes into explanation insured damage to belongings, commerce interruption losses and higher prices for cleanup and redevelopment materials, services and labor due to a surge in demand after the catastrophe.
