Chip Factories Are Save after Taiwan Earthquake


United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) revealed on Thursday that operations at its chip factories were untouched by the earthquake that strike southern Taiwan earlier in the morning.

A company-spokesman said, "our operations are normal and we haven't received any remarkable report so far".

The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale hit the Kaohsiung area at 0018 GMT and lasted for 53 seconds, the Central Weather Bureau said. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been issued so far.
