Chilean President Appeals UN for More Aid

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Monday has appealed to the United Nations for aid and more troops to stop looting in the country's heavily damaged south.
Earlier, looting has erupted in ConcepciĆ³n, the hard-hit southern city of Chile, while many people remained bound in a 15-story apartment building that toppled onto its side.
This appeal came amid local criticism that the Bachelet government initially did not consider the devastation, squandering chances to rescue survivors. At least 723 fatalities have been confirmed yet that number is still expected to rise.
Earthquake experts said that the death toll appears low as compared to the enormous power of the magnitude-8.8 quake. The northern capital of Santiago was slowly returning to business as usual Monday. Subway lines were running again and many shops and offices were open for business
